Seiko Instruments Names Seasoned Global Executive to Lead Business Development, Sales and Strategy Efforts

Thermal printer company appoints Matt J. Schmitz to focus on company’s
overall worldwide expansion, growth, and go-to market strategies.

Torrance, CA, April 2, 2019– Seiko Instruments USA Inc. (SII) Thermal Printer Division, a globally recognized leader in thermal printer technology, today announced that it has named Matt J. Schmitz as its new Director, Sales and Business Development. Schmitz will be focusing on growth and strategic activities for the company’s POS, Smart Label, Panel Mount, Mobile Printer and Smart Label Printer (SLP) products for the North American region. He will be based out of Boulder, CO.

Prior to joining Seiko Instruments last month, Schmitz held business and offering development, sales and services leadership roles at Xerox Corporation and Hewlett Packard Inc. and contributed to the expansion of the respective digital transformation and managed services businesses. Most recently with Xerox, he led the Asia and international services business, delivering new go-to-market offerings, grew the services business revenues with top enterprise clients and furthered the strategic partnership with Fuji Xerox. Earlier, as a leader in HP’s Managed Services, Schmitz leveraged his enterprise software and solutions background and played an integral role in HP’s initial foray into Managed Print Services, contributing to the transformation of HP’s enterprise print business into a services and solution-led organization.

Schmitz, who is fluent in Japanese, holds both MBA and BS degrees in International Marketing from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado.

“I’m excited to be working with Seiko Instruments, and the entire thermal printer team, as we create, plan and execute our transformational strategies for the coming year (and beyond),” Schmitz said. “I’m looking forward to collaborating with my colleagues, leveraging our unique capabilities and experiences to accelerate our success and building upon the solid foundation of the Seiko Instruments brand going forward.”

“Having Matt (Schmitz) on our team is a welcome addition and new perspective to our talented roster of executives,” said Yoshi Murakami, General Manager, Seiko Instruments USA. “And with that will also bring forward a fresh outlook and perception of Seiko Instruments’ thermal printer business, especially as we are currently experiencing exciting times when it comes to new products, partnerships and strategies, and development.”
